Skincare is something that has become a lot more important to me over the past year or so. I've relied on makeup to perk up my appearance for over a decade now but the look of naturally beautiful skin is something that I would love to have every single day, regardless of whether I'm wearing makeup or not.
My skin type is oily / combination and can be difficult to manage at times. Being in my mid twenties and still getting frequent breakouts and patches of dry, blotchy red skin can feel disheartening but I'm stepping up my skincare routine in 2014 and finding out what products work well for me in attempt to get my skin looking it's best.
As an oily / combination skinned girl, it's tempting to use harsh cleansers and toners that promise to remove the unwanted oils from our skin but the problem is that this can sometimes strip our skin of essential moisture and lead to the skin producing even more oils as it tries to compensate for the loss. It also means that any drier areas get even dryer! So it can become a bit of a vicious circle. It's been so nice to try out a different approach to my skincare routine lately and focus more on good quality products with more natural ingredients and less chemicals that can work with my skin type and not against it!

Review: Apivita Cleansing Purifying Tonic Lotion with Propolis and Citrus for Oily / Combination Skin
APIVITA is a natural skincare brand established in 1979 by two pharmacists, Nikos and Niki Koutsianas, who are also husband and wife! The brand is rapidly gaining a reputation for excellent and innovative products. Like the well known natural beauty brand Korres, APIVITA also originates from sunny Greece.
APIVITA products contain some quite unique natural ingredients including ones harnessed through Bees such as Honey, Royal Jelly, Beeswax and Propolis. Propolis is perhaps the lesser known Bee ingredient of the four, but due to it's antibiotic, antiviral and antimycotic properties, it's excellent for removing skin impurities and improving acne.
It's also interesting to note that all of the water in APIVITA face cleansing products has been replaced by an organic green tea infusion to enhance their antioxidant properties.
***Did you know? Propolis is actually a resin like substance that Bees collect from botanical sources and they use it to seal gaps in their hive!***

All APIVITA products contain a high percentage of natural ingredients and this Cleansing Purifying Tonic Lotion with Propolis and Citrus is no exception, containing an impressive 98% natural ingredients.
The packaging is simple but effective and is made with recycled and recyclable materials. The scent is quite delicate and very refreshing and the product inside is a clear, water like fluid. I usually find that 2 pumps of this squirted on a cotton pad is sufficient to tone my entire face and neck. So, at 200 ml, this product should last me for a long time. At £12.66, this is more expensive than your average toner but you do get a little piece of luxury skincare with amazing ingredients and promising results. It does contain alcohol so if you have dry or sensitive skin, that may be something you need to consider before purchasing but this product primarily is designed for oily / combination skin types which can usually benefit from the astringent properties of alcohol.
I have been enjoying using this tonic lotion and I've found that it's excellent at finding and removing the last bits of makeup left behind, even after double cleansing! It leaves my face feeling very clean and refreshed and despite the alcohol content, this doesn't dry out my skin and it contains a lot of hydrating ingredients.
My skin has been looking very well recently and I think that this product has helped a lot. I have had fewer break outs and my skin looks brighter and healthier overall.
